How Jamaica’s airport system works

Most leisure travelers arrive through Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. It is Jamaica’s main tourism gateway and the easiest airport for many resort stays on the north and west coasts.

Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston serves the capital region and carries a strong mix of Caribbean, North American, and London service.

Ian Fleming International Airport in Ocho Rios is much smaller and currently has a very limited scheduled passenger network compared with MBJ and KIN.

Montego Bay Airport (MBJ)

Jamaica’s main resort gateway and the island’s broadest international route network.

Quick comparison

Airport Best for Route profile Simple takeaway
Montego Bay (MBJ) Montego Bay, Rose Hall, Negril, Falmouth, much of the north coast Broadest mix of U.S., Canada, Europe, Latin America, and regional service The easiest choice for most resort vacations
Kingston (KIN) Kingston, Port Royal area, southeast Jamaica Strong Caribbean and North America network with London service Best when your trip centers on the capital region
Ocho Rios (OCJ) Travelers specifically heading to Ocho Rios and nearby north-coast areas Very limited scheduled service Useful only when its small schedule fits your trip

Which airport should you fly into?

Choose MBJ if…

Your stay is in Montego Bay, Rose Hall, Falmouth, Trelawny, Negril, or another major north-coast resort area.

Choose KIN if…

You are heading to Kingston, the capital region, or the southeast side of Jamaica.

Choose OCJ if…

A Miami flight into Ocho Rios fits your plans and you want a smaller arrival experience with fewer options.

Final thought

Jamaica is well connected by air, but the best airport depends on where you are staying. For most leisure trips, Montego Bay remains the obvious entry point. Kingston is the better choice for the capital region. Ocho Rios offers a niche option with much more limited service.
