Why this destination stands out
Why Port Antonio Feels Like “Many Vacations in One”
Port Antonio vacations are uncharacteristic compared with many other destinations in Jamaica. There are not many places you can truly compare it to. A Port Antonio vacation places you in a town of twin harbors, azure sea, and lush green mountains—so close together it almost feels unreal. This is why so many people fall in love with Portland: you get the best of holiday, leisure, and adventure in one ecological setting.
Port Antonio is also widely recognized as the birthplace of tourism in Jamaica. In the early 1900s, American cargo ships traveled from the USA to Port Antonio for the banana trade. Merchants began offering transport into Port Antonio for vacationers, wealthy Americans built villas, and Jamaica’s tourism story took root—with Port Antonio at the center of that early chapter.
San San Beach
One of the prettiest beach experiences in the area—calm, scenic, and perfect for a quiet swim day.
Monkey Island
A classic Port Antonio photo moment. Whether viewed from shore or by boat, it’s pure Portland charm.
Blue Lagoon
An iconic stop for cool water, tropical scenery, and that unmistakable “Port Antonio feeling.”
Boston Beach & Boston Jerk
Famous for jerk pork and other jerk dishes, plus great swimming and snorkeling. Family-friendly and picnic-ready.
Somerset Falls

Rio Grande Rafting

Blue Mountains
Cooler air, dramatic views, and a totally different side of Jamaica. Great for nature lovers and explorers.
Navy Island
A short boat ride from the mainland—an easy add-on that makes Port Antonio feel like a two-for-one vacation.
Peace, Green Mountains & Real Tranquility
A Port Antonio vacation is a beautiful alternative to more crowded resort areas such as Ocho Rios, Negril, and Montego Bay. If you are looking for a holiday with genuine peace and tranquility, Port Antonio is one of Jamaica’s strongest choices. Located on the north-eastern end of the island, it is a true eco-tourism destination where waterfalls, rivers, beaches, and rainforest exist together naturally.
Hollywood, Legends & The Global Spotlight
Port Antonio was further glamorized by Hollywood. Films such as Club Paradise, Cocktail, and The Blue Lagoon helped bring Portland into the global imagination. The legend of Errol Flynn added even more fame: after his yacht “Zaca” washed ashore in rough weather, he fell in love with Port Antonio and later purchased Navy Island, a former British Navy base just off the coast.
Somerset Falls: A Cool, Easy Nature Day
If your Port Antonio vacation is about calm beauty and low-crowd attractions, Somerset Falls fits perfectly—cool water, greenery, and an easy pace.
That Portland Look: Green on Green
The scenery is part of the magic—mature trees, rainforest hills, and mountains that make the coastline feel like a living postcard.
Reach Falls: A Prime Example of Portland Biodiversity
Portland is richly blessed with biodiversity, and Reach Falls is a prime example. The exotic flora and fauna surrounding the area feel almost surreal. Reach Falls has also been used as a film setting, including scenes associated with Cocktail. If you want to visit a superb waterfall in Jamaica but prefer a more intimate atmosphere than the busiest attractions, Reach Falls is an excellent option.
Tucked away in the hills of Portland, east of Port Antonio near Manchioneal, the water at Reach Falls originates less than a mile farther up in the Blue and John Crow Mountains. It passes through a largely natural environment before unfolding at the falls. Compared to the busier feel of Dunn’s River Falls, Reach feels more secluded—surrounded by rainforest calm.
What makes Reach Falls especially memorable is the way the cascades tumble over limestone, forming pools of different shades of blue and green with crystal-clear water. Some pools are calm and still; others rush and bubble like nature’s own spa. Hidden caves behind water curtains add to the adventure, and guided exploration can make the experience safer and more enjoyable.
