11,000 Jamaica Hotel Rooms Are Coming Back. Something Bigger Is Beginning.
Jamaica’s tourism recovery is moving from promises to hotel keys. Thousands of rooms are returning through 2026 and 2027, and some of the most important changes are unfolding along the Montego Bay tourism corridor.
Jamaica is not waiting quietly for tourism to recover. Behind construction fences, inside temporarily closed resorts and along some of the island’s busiest tourism corridors, thousands of hotel rooms are being prepared for guests again.
At the 2026 Jamaica Product Exchange, tourism officials outlined a recovery programme that could return more than 11,000 rooms to Jamaica’s accommodation inventory through 2026 and 2027.
On paper, that is a hotel statistic.
In the real Jamaica, it means much more.
When a hotel room comes back, an entire chain of Jamaican businesses can begin moving again.
Airline seats, airport activity, transportation, restaurants, attractions, farmers, entertainers and workers all connect in some way to the number of visitors the island can accommodate.
We recently examined the other half of this unusual recovery: Jamaica’s flights are around 85% full even while arrivals are down .
That told us something important. The appetite for Jamaica did not simply disappear.
The island had fewer airline seats and fewer available hotel rooms. Now the supply side is beginning to catch up.
This Is Not Really a Story About Hotel Rooms
A room is simply the unit we use to count something much larger.
Jamaica’s tourism industry works like a network. Hotels create demand for flights. Flights bring passengers through the airports. Those passengers need transportation. They eat, explore, shop, take tours and spend money far beyond the property where they sleep.
Remove thousands of rooms from that network and the effects travel outward.
Put them back, and the network begins breathing again.
Jamaica’s Comeback Will Arrive in Waves
There will not be one morning when somebody flips a switch and declares Jamaica’s hotel recovery complete.
The rooms are returning in stages.
Properties begin adding meaningful inventory ahead of the main winter travel period.
December is expected to deliver a substantial increase in available accommodation.
Another large block of rooms is projected to return during the first quarter of 2027.
The timing matters. Each reopening increases the number of travellers Jamaica can realistically accommodate, particularly during high-demand winter months.
One Tourism Corridor Could Feel the Recovery Faster Than Most
Some of the most consequential remaining hotel inventory sits in Montego Bay and Rose Hall.
That makes the recovery here especially important. Sangster International Airport feeds the western resort corridor, and changes in room capacity can ripple quickly through airport traffic and the businesses serving arriving guests.
For travellers arriving through MBJ, arranging Montego Bay Airport Transportation before arrival can make the transition from airport to resort considerably easier as visitor volumes build again.

The effect does not remain inside the hotels.

Bring Back the Rooms. But Bring More Jamaica Into Them.
Rebuilding gives Jamaica an opportunity to do more than restore what existed before.
More Jamaican food can reach hotel tables. More Jamaican art can reach hotel walls. More locally made furniture can fill rooms. More musicians, farmers, guides, transportation companies, restaurants and communities can participate in the visitor economy.
A stronger tourism industry should not make Jamaica disappear behind resort walls.
It should make Jamaica easier to discover.

Reopening Dates Can Move
There is one important caution for travellers planning around a particular resort reopening.
Hotel recovery schedules are fluid. Construction timelines can change, individual properties can reopen in stages, and announced dates can move.
Anyone booking specifically because a resort is expected to reopen should confirm its current status directly before purchasing non-refundable travel arrangements.
Jamaica Is Not Simply Reopening. It Is Rebuilding Momentum.
For a period, Jamaica faced an uncomfortable imbalance. Travellers still wanted the island, but thousands of the rooms needed to accommodate them were unavailable.
Airline capacity contracted. Arrivals declined. Yet the aircraft that continued flying to Jamaica remained remarkably full.
That was the clue.
Demand was still there.
Now thousands of rooms are moving back toward the market. Montego Bay’s resort corridor is preparing for another chapter, and the network connecting hotels, airports, communities and travellers is beginning to expand again.
