Why Port Antonio Feels Like “Many Vacations in One”
Port Antonio vacations are uncharacteristic to many others. There are not many places that you can make a true comparison to. A Port Antonio vacation lands you in a town of twin harbors, azure sea, and lush green mountains—so close together it almost feels unreal. This is why so many people fall in love with Portland: you get the best of holiday, leisure, and idealistic escapades all in an ecological environment.
Port Antonio is also the birthplace of tourism in Jamaica; this is where it all started. In the early 1900s, American cargo ships traveled from the USA to Port Antonio to facilitate the banana trade. Merchants offered visitors transport into Port Antonio for vacation, wealthy Americans began building villas, and Jamaica’s tourism story took root—thanks to Port Antonio.
San San Beach
One of the prettiest beach experiences in the area—calm, scenic, and perfect for a quiet swim day.

Boston Beach is readily identified with Port Antonio vacation—famous for jerk pork and other jerk dishes, plus great swimming and snorkeling. It’s a favorite for child-friendly family outings and picnics.
Somerset Falls

Rio Grande Rafting
A two-hour cruise on a bamboo raft through amazing scenery on the Rio Grande River—one of the most famous Port Antonio vacation activities.
Blue Mountains
Cooler air, dramatic views, and a totally different side of Jamaica. A great add-on if you love nature and exploration.
Navy Island
A short boat journey from mainland—an easy add-on that makes Port Antonio feel like a “two-for-one” vacation.
Portland’s Signature: Peace, Green Mountains & Real Tranquility
A Port Antonio vacation is an alternative to the more crowded resort areas such as Ocho Rios, Negril, and Montego Bay. If you’re thinking about taking a holiday in total peace and tranquility, Port Antonio is the way to go. Nestled in the north-eastern end of Jamaica, it’s a true model of eco-tourism—waterfalls, rivers, beaches, and rainforest all living together naturally.
Hollywood, Legends & The Global Spotlight
Port Antonio vacations were glamorized by Hollywood—movies like Club Paradise and Cocktail, followed by The Blue Lagoon, helped push Portland into the world’s imagination. The legend of Errol Flynn added even more fame: after his yacht “Zaca” was washed ashore in terrible weather, he fell in love with Port Antonio and bought Navy Island, a former British Navy base from the 18th century just off the shores.
Somerset Falls: A Cool, Easy Nature Day
If your Port Antonio vacation is about calm beauty and “not too crowded” attractions, Somerset Falls fits perfectly—cool water, greenery, and an easy pace.
That Portland Look: Green on Green
The scenery is part of the magic—mature trees, thick rainforest, and mountains that make the coast feel like a living postcard.
Reach Falls: A Prime Example of Portland Biodiversity
Portland in general is richly blessed with bio-diversity, and Reach Falls is a prime example. The wild exotic flora and fauna that adorn the surroundings is surreal. Reach Falls has even been the setting for movies, including Tom Cruise’s Cocktail. If you would like to visit a superb waterfall in Jamaica but do not want a crowded attraction, Reach Falls is an ideal choice.
Tucked away in the hills of Portland, east of Port Antonio near Manchioneal, the water at Reach Falls originates less than a mile further up in the Blue and John Crow Mountains. It touches nothing synthetic before it unleashes its full glory at the falls. Unlike the busy Dunn’s River Falls, Reach is more intimate—surrounded by rainforest peace and tranquility.
Reach Falls is impressive because the cascades tumble over limestone, forming pools of different shades of blue and green with crystal-clear water. Some pools are calm and still; others rush and bubble like nature’s hot tub. Hidden caves behind water curtains add to the adventure, including an exit that comes out above the main waterfall. One famous underwater cavern is the Mandingo Tunnel—an experience made safer and more enjoyable with a local guide.
